Ry-co Jazz

Paris, France

Ry-co Jazz (Ry-co means rhythmes congolais) was founded in 1958 by singer Ferdinand N’Kounkou and started as a Afro Latin band in Congo. Between 1961 and 1966, the band toured and recorded in West Africa and Europe. In late 1966, Ry-co Jazz moved to Martinique, where they became the founders of the ‘tumbele’ style. In 1973 the band members returned to Paris and started their solo carreers.
